Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College (BRAC) came into existence on 8th Feb 1991 during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar with Dr. P.C. Patanjali as the founder Principal. It is a constituent co-educational college of the University of Delhi and is 100 % funded by Delhi Government. Since its inception, it has maintained its incessant momentum on the path of progress, both in academics and extra-curricular fields. The Principal, teaching & non-teaching Staff have dedicated themselves to build an environment of holistic and inclusive learning, inspiring the youth to create a fruitful and responsible future. The college completed its Silver Jubilee (25th year of operation) in 2016 and the year was celebrated with a number of academic events, workshops and conferences. The college has a unique combination of academic and professional courses under the three year Bachelor Degree Programmes. The prominent academic programmes include B.Com & B.Com (Hons.), B.A. (Hons.) Geography, B.A. (Hons.) History and the evergreen B.A. (Programme). The college holds the unique distinction of being the forerunner in launching four professional courses of the University namely B.A. (Hons.) Hindi Journalism and Mass Communication which was introduced in 1994-95, B.A. (Hons.) Social Work and B.A. (Hons.) Business Economics which were started in 1995-96 and B.A. (Hons.) Applied Psychology which was introduced in 2007- 08. The college has a distinction of offering some Commerce based courses like Human Resource Management (HRM) and Office Management and Secretarial Practice (OMSP) besides the Vocational Course like Functional Hindi (FH) to the students of BA (Programme). The college is privileged to have WUS Health Centre in its premises to look after the health care needs of students of Delhi University and its employees. The College is situated near upcoming Metro station which will soon be operational. Under the capacity expansion plan initiated by GNCTD, the University has selected our college as one of the Regional-cum-Study Centres to facilitate undergraduate teaching under Personal Contact Programme (PCP) for School of Open Learning (SOL) students. The college is also one of the Centres for teaching to the girl students under Non Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB), University of Delhi. Our College has also been selected as one of the 12 Centres spread all over India by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Tamil Nadu which offers one year Post Graduate Diploma in Youth Development (PGDYD) under the coordinatorship of Dr. S.S Chawla.
