Geography is concerned with providing scientific description and interpretation about the variable character of earth surface. Geography is fundamentally a holistic discipline in that it studies things and events in their total context. Geographers study human habitat and man’s interrelations with environment. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the subject is gaining popularity especially when the world is in the grip of problems like climate change, environmental degradation and depletion, food insecurity, regional and socio-economic inequalities and socio-cultural transformations. The discipline’s scope gives an advantage to the students providing diverse career options. The new techniques of data acquisition and analysis like Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) have further widened up the career options. In addition to the class room teaching and spatial technologies practical knowledge, the Department of Geography also organizes a field trip to enrich the understanding of the subject. Field Trip will be organised by the Department of Geography for the students of semester IV for the partial fulfillment of paper 10: Field Work and Research Methodology (Practical). The field trip is compulsory for all the students of Semester IV.
